Affiliate disclosure

Tax Software Compared is free to use. To pay for our research, we earn money from some of the links on our site. This page explains how that works, in line with the UK Advertising Codes (the CAP Code, enforced by the ASA) and the Competition and Markets Authority's guidance on online reviews and endorsements.

What is an affiliate link?

An affiliate link is a special link to a provider's website. If you click it and then sign up or buy, the provider may pay us a commission. For example, if you click through to a software provider and start a paid plan, we might receive a one-off fee or a share of what you pay.

Which links are affiliate links?

  • Our "visit" and "try" buttons for providers that pay us go through links that start with /go/ on our site.
  • These links are marked with rel="sponsored" in the page code, which tells search engines they are commercial.
  • Pages that contain affiliate links show a short notice near the top.

Plain mentions of a product in our text are not affiliate links.

Does it cost you more?

No. You pay the same price whether you use our link or go to the provider directly. Occasionally a provider offers a discount through partner links, and we'll say so when that happens.

Does it affect our rankings?

No. We score every product with the same published rubric, explained on our how we test page. Whether a provider pays us plays no part in the score. Several of our highest-rated products pay us nothing.

We never accept payment for a place in our rankings, for a review, or for a better score. Providers cannot see or approve our reviews before they go live.
