Privacy notice

This notice explains what personal data Tax Software Compared collects, why, and what rights you have under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). The short version: we collect very little.

Who is responsible for your data?

The data controller (the organisation responsible for your data) is [Controller name, address and ICO registration number if applicable]. You can contact us at hello@taxsoftwarecompared.com.

What data do we collect?

  • No accounts. You don't need to sign up or log in to use our site.
  • Our tools run in your browser. The Do I need MTD? checker and the software quiz work entirely on your device. Nothing you type into them is sent to us or stored by us.
  • Analytics, only with your consent. If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages are read and how people find us. This includes data such as pages viewed, device type, rough location and a shortened IP address. If you don't consent, Google Analytics does not load.
  • Emails you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address, name (if given) and whatever you write.
  • Affiliate clicks. When you click an affiliate link and leave our site, the provider or its affiliate network may record that click to pay us commission. That happens on their site, under their privacy policy. See our affiliate disclosure.

Is your data sent outside the UK?

Google may process analytics data in the United States. Google relies on approved safeguards for these transfers, such as the UK Extension to the EU to US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. Our email provider may also store messages outside the UK, with similar safeguards.

What are your rights?

You have the right to:
