Hammock landlord software review: is it good for MTD?

Quick answer

We score Hammock 4.3 out of 5. It's MTD software built only for landlords, with unlimited bank feeds that sort transactions by property, from £8 a month ex VAT for 1 to 3 properties. It's best for landlords who want their banking to do the bookkeeping. Its app is poorly rated (2.6 iOS). Hammock pays us nothing.

Hammock is UK software built only for landlords. Its big idea is simple: connect your bank accounts, and Hammock pulls in your transactions and sorts them by property. It then uses those records to send your Making Tax Digital (MTD) updates to HMRC. In this review we look at the price, how it handles MTD, and the one big weakness you should know about. We checked every price on Hammock's website in October 2026.

Hammock pays us nothing. It has no affiliate programme, so we earn no commission if you choose it. We still rate it highly because it does its core job well.

Pricing is by number of properties, and the steps are gentle. A landlord with 10 properties pays £15 a month, which is good value. There is no free plan, but there is a 30-day free trial, so you can see how well the bank feeds sort your transactions before paying.

Is Hammock good for MTD for Income Tax?

Yes. Hammock supports MTD for Income Tax for landlords. It keeps digital records of your rent and costs and sends your quarterly updates to HMRC. These are due by 7 August, 7 November, 7 February and 7 May, and your tax return is still due by 31 January (GOV.UK).

For landlords, qualifying income is your total rent before expenses, plus any self-employed turnover. If you own a property jointly, only your share counts (GOV.UK).

Here's an illustration. Raj and his wife jointly own six rental homes, with total rent of £72,000 a year. Raj's half share is £36,000, which is over £30,000. If that was his income for 2025 to 2026, he must use MTD from 6 April 2027 (GOV.UK). Rent and repair bills go through two bank accounts. Hammock's Standard plan covers 4 to 10 properties for £15 a month, and sorts each transaction to the right home automatically.

HMRC won't give penalty points for late quarterly updates in the 2026 to 2027 tax year. Our MTD guide for landlords explains what to do and when.

Is Hammock good for landlords?

Yes. It was built for them and nothing else. Its focus is on getting your money in and out sorted by property with as little typing as possible. For landlords who already run everything through a bank account, that can save hours each quarter.

It doesn't focus on tenancy management or compliance reminders the way Landlord Vision does. If you want those extras, read our Landlord Vision review.

Hammock key features

  • Bank feeds: yes, unlimited. Bank feeds mean your bank transactions flow in automatically, so you don't type them in.
  • Sorting by property: transactions are matched to each property, which keeps your records tidy.
  • Receipts: you can keep records of costs against each property.
  • Invoicing: not a focus. Landlords usually collect rent rather than send invoices.
  • VAT returns: not applicable. Hammock is landlord software, not general business software.
  • CIS: not applicable.
  • Mobile app: rated only 2.6 on the UK App Store and 2.5 on Google Play in October 2026. The current status of the mobile app was unclear when we checked.

Is Hammock easy to use?

On a computer, the idea is simple, and on paper the automatic sorting does much of the work for you. The weak point is mobile. App ratings of 2.6 and 2.5 are low, and it wasn't clear when we checked whether the app is still being actively offered. If you want to do your property admin on your phone, check with Hammock first, and use the 30-day trial to see how it works for you.

Final verdict: is Hammock worth it?

For landlords who want their bank feeds to do the hard work, yes. Hammock sorts your transactions by property and sends your MTD updates, from £8 a month. Pricing stays fair as your portfolio grows. The big caveat is the poorly rated app and unclear mobile status, so plan to use it on a computer. If you want tenancy and compliance tools too, look at Landlord Vision. Hammock scores 4.3 out of 5.
